In West Bengal, the Bikaner Guwahati Express derailed near Jalpaiguri-Maynaguri. According to railway officials, three passengers are believed to be dead and more than ten injured after the 12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed and overturned near Dohomoni in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. At the scene of the accident, rescue efforts are underway.

At least five people were killed when the Guwahati-Bikaner Express derailed in Moynaguri, north Bengal, on Thursday evening around 5 p.m., according to the North East Frontier Railway. While the rescue operation is underway, the injured are being transported to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital. A high-level investigation into the accident has been ordered. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the railway minister, will travel to the accident site tonight.

Officials from the railway later stated that at least 12 coaches were affected. At least four to five bogies were found upside down on the track in photos from the accident. According to officials, the number of casualties could rise. The railways have announced ex gratia payments of 5 lakh for those who died, 1 lakh for those who were severely injured, and 25,000 for those who suffered minor injuries.

Rajesh Kumar, chief reservation supervisor, Patna junction, stated that 98 passengers boarded the Guwahati-Bikaner Express from Patna junction. According to him, three people boarded from Mokama and two from Bakhtiarpur.

Indian Railways Released A Compensation Rs 500,000 For Deceased

The Indian Railways has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakhs for the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those severely injured, and Rs 25,000 for people with minor injuries.

“Accident occurred around 5 pm between Domohani and New Maynaguri. Around 10 coaches have been affected. 3 dead, 20 injured.
